The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recorded the statement of United Naga Council (UNC) president Ng Lorho as part of its ongoing investigation into the Kangpokpi ambush and subsequent killings in Manipur. The statement was recorded at the Senapati Superintendent of Police office on Tuesday.
NIA officials travelling from Kohima to Imphal stopped at Senapati to question key local figures whose names surfaced during the course of the investigation. Taposh Basumatary, Superintendent of Police of the NIA Branch Office in Imphal, said that recording statements from relevant individuals had become necessary to establish facts and gather evidence.
The investigation relates to the May 13 ambush in the Kotlen–Kotzim area of Kangpokpi district, where three pastors belonging to the Thadou community were killed. The agency is examining various aspects of the case and collecting witness testimonies from community leaders and other individuals linked to the probe.
Earlier, joint teams carried out targeted operations and made arrests in connection with the abduction and killing of six Naga men, including local pastors. The investigation remains underway, with authorities continuing efforts to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
The killings have intensified ethnic tensions in the region, leading to protests and disruptions across several areas of Manipur. The NIA has maintained that all relevant evidence and statements are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
