Village Chairman Dies In Accident

Duanjilung Lucas, the village Chairman of Lungreizang Village, was killed due to road accident on National Highway -37 in Jiribam district.
Reports stated that the incident occurred on April 28 at around 6:30 PM, when the Chairman was riding his Scooty along National Highway -37 and collided with a piled-up land obstruction on the roadway at Chandrapur.
The Lungreizang Village Authority held Apex Company responsible for the accident, alleging gross negligence in the construction work on the Highway. The Lungreizang Village Authority said that the lack of proper safety measures and road management during the construction led to the fatal incident.
The village Chairman was immediately taken to Silchar Medical Hospital; however he succumbed to his injuries and died on May 6. His body was brought to his native village for the last rites on Thursday.
Tahemang Panmei, Chairman of the Rongmei Naga Council,Jiribam area, stated that the Apex company, which is undertaking the road construction work on National Highway, has piled large quantities of soil on the roadway at Chandrapur, Jiribam. Since there was no proper diversion signage, the serious accident occurred, the Chairman said. Panmei further alleged that the Apex Company was responsible for such negligence and demanded that the Company compensate the family of the deceased.
Panmei also appealed to the District Administration of Jiribam to issue strict Orders to the assigned road construction company to ensure that such negligence is not repeated in future, so as to prevent any such fatal accident.
