Project Hinchi, a joint initiative of Manipur Police and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Churachandpur district to curb poppy cultivation through sustainable alternative farming, has won the SKOCH Gold Award in Police and Safety category.
With CSR support of Rs. 28 lakhs, 154 households were provided 55,000 kgs ginger seeds, 6,500 banana saplings and 700 kgs pea seeds under this project.
A total of 254 acres previously under poppy cultivation in Churachandpur have been converted to alternative crops, with produce marketed to local Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) units.
Meaning “Seeds of Life,” the initiative aims to replace illicit poppy fields with legal, high-yield cash crops across the district’s most vulnerable regions.
The project marks a shift from purely punitive measures to a community-centric model of “risk to resilience,” focusing on the socio-economic transformation of farming families.
The initiative targets sensitive areas within the district where poppy cultivation has historically been prevalent.
