All assistance will be provided for the speedy recovery of Manipur’s economy: Nirmala Sitharaman

The Parliament was reassured by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday that the government was doing everything it could to help Manipur, which was ravaged by conflict, recover economically. “We are offering every possible piece of support to help the (Manipur) economy recover more quickly. In response to the discussion on the Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2024-25, the Demands for Additional Grants for the year 2021-22, and the Budget of Manipur for the year 2025-26”, she told the Lok Sabha, I (would) like to put for consideration for all members we will continuously support so that the recovery is faster.

Manipur’s additional grant request for 2024–2025, totaling Rs 1,861 crore, was also put on the table. The FM in Manipur has announced steps to restore normalcy in the northeastern state, which has been experiencing ethnic conflict for over two years. Recovery of looted arms and ammunition is underway. The President’s rule was imposed after Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s resignation.
