Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda announces bid for Yaiskul seat in 2027 Manipur polls

Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda has officially announced her candidature from the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency for the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, marking the beginning of her campaign for the upcoming state polls. Brinda made the announcement during a programme held at her residence on Sunday in the presence of supporters, well-wishers and local residents. The declaration is expected to add momentum to political activity in Yaiskul as political parties and aspiring candidates gradually begin preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections. Addressing those gathered at the event, Brinda said her decision to enter the electoral arena was motivated by a desire to bring systemic change and promote governance focused on public welfare and the interests of society.

Appealing for public support, she acknowledged that she does not possess the traditional resources often associated with election campaigns. “I do not have money or muscle power, which are common mechanisms to win elections. However, I believe there are people who truly understand the value of democracy. Kindly support me to reach that lawmaking platform,” she said. Brinda stressed the need for Yaiskul to have a representative who remains accessible to the people and prioritises public welfare above political considerations. She said elected representatives should maintain close engagement with citizens and address issues affecting everyday life.

While confirming her decision to contest the election, Brinda did not reveal the political platform under which she will enter the race. She indicated that details regarding her political affiliation would be announced at a later stage.
