Security forces in Manipur carried out a series of counter-insurgency operations, leading to the arrest of suspected militant cadres and the recovery of explosives, weapons and ammunition from different parts of the state.
In Kamjong district, security forces detained a senior cadre of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) Organisation, or PRE-PAK (PRO), on September 30 following intelligence inputs about his alleged infiltration from Myanmar. Acting on specific information, security personnel set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in the Chandrakhong area and detained 56-year-old Moirangthem Boboy Singh, alias Laingam, a resident of Kakmayai Mayai Leikai. He was identified as a self-styled captain of the outfit.
During interrogation, Singh allegedly admitted to being involved in the recruitment of four teenage boys from Bishnupur district and facilitating their movement to Myanmar. Security agencies have launched further investigations to uncover the broader network and circumstances surrounding the recruitment.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of explosives, weapons and ammunition from the Khordak Patton area of Bishnupur district on Wednesday morning. The joint operation, conducted by district police and security personnel, began around 5.30 am following intelligence inputs.
Among the items seized were six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a country-made drone bomb, four hand grenades, a country-made MP-5 with magazine, five magazines of different weapons and several rounds of ammunition. The explosives and weapons were reportedly concealed inside plastic sacks. Authorities have not confirmed any arrests in connection with the recovery.
Meanwhile, in Imphal East district, security forces arrested an alleged active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and its armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The arrested individual, identified as 46-year-old Nepram Singhajit Singh, was detained during an operation at Khurai Puthiba Leikai on September 30.
According to security agencies, Singh was actively involved in recruiting new members for the outfit and had reportedly arrived in the area to arrange transportation for newly recruited cadres towards Ukhrul district.
In another operation conducted on September 29, Tengnoupal Police and security personnel apprehended two juvenile cadres of the PLA near Border Pillar 87 at Yangoupokpi under Tengnoupal Police Station.
The arrests and recoveries are part of ongoing security operations against insurgent groups across Manipur. In recent weeks, police and security agencies have intensified search operations across several districts, leading to multiple recoveries of arms, ammunition and other warlike stores.
