Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the CM Connect Centre at Sohiong Community and Rural Development Block and laid the foundation stones for several key development projects at an event held at Mawtap Pyllun Ground.
Also present were C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Sohiong MLA Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah, and senior officials from the district administration.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sangma said it was a special day for Sohiong.
“Today, eight projects worth Rs 5.48 crore are being dedicated to the people and foundation stones for nine projects worth Rs 140 crore are being laid, reiterating our commitment to ensure that development reaches every village and every citizen of the State,” he said.
Along with the CM Connect Centre, seven projects covering administration, education, digital access, sanitation and farm incomes were inaugurated.
One of the key inaugurated projects was the Block Integrated Development project worth Rs 2.77 crore, inaugurated by Pyntngenlang Nongrang from Nongur village, a former Sepoy who served 17 years in the 1st Assam Regiment of the Indian Army.
Highlighting the purpose of the CM Connect platform, the Chief Minister said it was about listening to people and giving them the opportunity to speak.
“Governance is an ongoing process and requires continuous effort. It is important to keep the people first while maintaining a clear vision and goal,” he stated.
During the CM Connect session, residents of Sohiong raised several concerns including soil erosion during heavy rainfall, pending applications under the CM’s Solar Mission, development of a football field at Nongpur, construction of retaining walls, need for a labour office, cold storage in Krang area, vocational training centres, and non-implementation of crop and livestock insurance schemes.
Officers from concerned departments responded to the issues. While many were already being addressed, CM Sangma assured that all concerns would be followed up.
The Chief Minister and other dignitaries also distributed cheques to various village organisations for outstanding services and sanction orders to different Self-Help Groups during the programme.
