KNF Rebuffs Allegations of Abducting Naga Civilians Amid Hostage Concerns

The Kuki National Front (KNF) has strongly denied any involvement in the disappearance of six Naga civilians, who reportedly went missing on May 13. In an official statement, the outfit dismissed a viral social media poster accusing them of the abduction, labeling it as “AI-generated propaganda” and “malicious disinformation.”

The KNF categorically rejected the online claims as “baseless, malicious, and factually void.” According to the organization, the digital campaign is a coordinated smear tactic specifically designed to tarnish its image and target ST. Thangboi Kipgen, the Chairman of the United People’s Front (UPF). The group alleged that vested interests are exploiting advanced digital tools to manufacture inflammatory content, aiming to deepen ethnic fractures and incite communal unrest during a highly volatile period in Manipur.

Urging the public, media houses, and civil society organizations to exercise extreme caution, the KNF appealed against the sharing of unverified, fabricated narratives. The outfit warned that circulating such digital misinformation could dangerously escalate real-world tensions.

Reaffirming its mandate to protect the interests of the Kuki-Zo people, the KNF stated its commitment to peace and democratic engagement. It expressed hope for a safe resolution to the ongoing crisis across the Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts. Furthermore, the organization cautioned that it may initiate legal action against individuals or groups responsible for creating and spreading defamatory content meant to mislead both the public and state authorities.

This development unfolds amidst heightened anxieties in the region, fueled by conflicting reports regarding the six missing Naga civilians and counter-claims of fourteen Kuki-Zo individuals allegedly being held captive by Naga groups.
