The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has accused security forces of carrying out what it described as a “military-style lockdown” in Leilon Vaiphei village and adjoining areas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KIM alleged that security personnel conducted house-to-house searches and intimidated villagers, including women, children, students and elderly residents.
The organisation claimed that the village was still recovering from the June 15 attack in which three Kuki-Zo youths were injured.
KIM alleged that instead of protecting residents who were victims of violence, security forces treated them as suspects.
The organisation questioned why intensive operations were being conducted in Kuki-Zo areas while allegedly failing to take similar action against groups it claimed were responsible for attacks.
KIM demanded immediate action against those responsible for the June 15 violence and called for an end to what it termed “collective punishment” of civilians.
The organisation stated that security operations should not result in harassment of innocent residents and urged authorities to ensure equal protection and justice for all communities.
