NPP Condemns Drone Attacks on Manipur Border Villages

The National People’s Party (NPP) has issued a strong condemnation following a series of violent attacks on border villages in Manipur, allegedly carried out by suspected cadres of the Kuki National Army (B) from across the Myanmar border. In a press statement released on May 8, the party expressed grave concern over the use of drones in these assaults, describing the development as a dangerous escalation of violence in the region.

The attacks targeted the vulnerable border villages of Namlee, Wanglee, Ashang Khullen, and Choro within the Kamjong district. According to the statement issued by Manikanta Laishram, Convenor of the NPP Manipur Media and IT Cell, the violence resulted in the destruction of 18 homes: 15 houses were set ablaze in Choro, two in Wanglee, and one in Namlee. The brutality of these acts has forced numerous residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge in safer areas, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Labeling the incidents as “barbaric acts against innocent civilians,” the NPP emphasized that such violence is completely unacceptable in a democratic society. The party has made an urgent appeal to both the State and Central governments to immediately bolster security measures in the border regions. They stressed the necessity of a decisive crackdown to prevent further infiltration and militant activities, ensuring the safety and stability of the affected communities.

Beyond the border incidents, the NPP also condemned the ongoing unrest in Sinakeithel, urging all militant groups and volunteers to cease hostilities. The party maintained that sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue and democratic negotiations. Calling for unity across communities, the NPP urged the authorities to act swiftly to restore normalcy and protect the lives of innocent citizens in the state.
