Reacting to the tragic killing of two young children in violence-hit Manipur, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed deep anguish and sharply criticised the Central government, questioning its response to the ongoing crisis.
Describing the incident as “heart-wrenching,” he said the deaths of innocent children highlight the continuing breakdown of peace in Manipur. He noted that even after three years of unrest, violence continues to claim lives, including those of the most vulnerable.
Gandhi accused the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “insensitive and indifferent,” stating that it appears to have forgotten that the children of Manipur are also the nation’s future. He questioned how long the people of the state would have to endure such suffering and wait for justice.
Emphasising the need for a long-term solution, he reiterated that peace can only be achieved through dialogue and by bringing all communities together with empathy and understanding.
Addressing the Prime Minister directly, Gandhi said Manipur is not just another state but a national responsibility. He stressed that symbolic gestures or brief visits are insufficient, and called for concrete, immediate measures to restore peace before the situation worsens further.
