Thousands of people joined a rally organised by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) in Kangpokpi on Saturday, demanding justice for the killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders, the release of 14 individuals allegedly being held hostage, and an early resolution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The rally commenced from Brig. M. Thomas Ground and moved along National Highway-2 before culminating at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Kangpokpi. The demonstration witnessed the participation of community leaders, church representatives, women, youth groups, and members of various civil society organisations.
Addressing the gathering, speakers strongly condemned the killing of the three church leaders and called for a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible. They also urged authorities to take immediate steps to secure the safe release of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals reportedly being held in Senapati district.
Church leaders highlighted the importance of peace, justice, and communal harmony, while community representatives appealed to the government to ensure accountability under the law and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Later, a delegation comprising KIM leaders and representatives of civil society organisations met Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari and submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the memorandum, KIM demanded action against those involved in the killing of the church leaders, measures to ensure the release of the 14 individuals, enhanced security in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, and initiatives to restore public confidence in the justice system.
The organisation also urged the government to continue political dialogue and work towards an early resolution of issues concerning the Kuki-Zo community.
The rally concluded peacefully, with participants reaffirming their commitment to pursuing their demands through democratic and constitutional means.
