Counter-Insurgency Operations Intensify in Manipur: Multiple Banned Cadres in Custody

Security forces in Manipur have intensified counter-insurgency operations, resulting in the arrest of several active militants and the recovery of a massive cache of “war-like stores” across the state. The operations, conducted on May 11 and 12, targeted vulnerable zones in both hill and valley districts to curb rising instability.

In a series of coordinated raids, personnel apprehended cadres from various proscribed outfits, including the KYKL, KCP (PWG), PREPAK, and NRFM. Among those detained is Nepram Dijamani Meetei, an active PREPAK member found in possession of 11 extortion demand letters.

The recovery of weaponry has been equally significant. In the Bishnupur district, search operations in the Tronglaobi and Laisoi areas led to the discovery of sophisticated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 8 kilograms, along with wireless-controlled switches and detonators. Furthermore, a major haul at Loktak Mapal yielded mortar shells, HE-36 hand grenades, bolt-action rifles, and anti-aircraft ammunition. Security teams also seized communication equipment, including Baofeng radio sets and bulletproof gear.

To ensure the safety of the public and the flow of essential goods, authorities have reinforced security along National Highway-37. An armed escort recently saw 156 vehicles through sensitive stretches of the highway. Currently, 115 checkpoints, or nakas, have been established across the state to maintain heightened surveillance.

State authorities confirmed that area domination exercises will continue indefinitely in fringe zones to dismantle militant networks and ensure the safe transit of commodities. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant as these anti-insurgency measures remain in full effect.
