Google has announced “Googlebook,” an ambitious new class of laptop that’s intended to be the premium successor to the traditional Chromebook. These devices are designed from the ground up on a single operating system that merges Android and ChromeOS. They are the perfect companion for Android smartphone users. Gone are the days of the budget Chromebook. Googlebooks are about high-end performance, premium build quality and deep, seamless integration with the Android ecosystem. Cast apps directly, access phone files without transferring and have a consistent workflow across devices.
Google’s Gemini AI is baked deep into the Googlebook experience. The operating system helps you proactively with AI, like the unique Magic Pointer that provides contextual suggestions when you wiggle your cursor, and the ability to make your own desktop widgets with natural language prompts. Each Googlebook will be set apart from a regular laptop by having a signature “Glowbar” on the lid, a functional design language. Google is partnering with big name manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo to bring these premium machines to market later this year, but the company has confirmed that it will continue to support existing Chromebooks, positioning Googlebooks as a higher-tier, intelligence-first alternative for power users.
