Manipur Police and security forces have arrested four alleged operatives linked to different banned insurgent outfits in separate operations carried out across Kakching, Thoubal and Imphal East districts on June 24 and 25. Officials said one firearm and live ammunition were also recovered during the operations. According to the police, the coordinated operations targeted individuals allegedly involved in activities of various proscribed organisations operating in the state. The arrests were made following intelligence-based operations conducted in different locations. On June 25, police arrested Shamjetshabam Kokfai Meitei (26), an alleged operative of the banned Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), from Kakching Khunou Umathel Mathak Leikai in Kakching district. Officials alleged that he was involved in extortion-related activities in the area.
In another operation conducted on the same day, security forces apprehended Konsam Oken Meitei, also known by the aliases Maijao, Malemnganba and Bode, from Wangjing Sabal Leikai under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. The 36-year-old, a resident of Heirok Part-III, Kabo Leikai in Thoubal, has been identified by the police as an alleged active cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). On June 24, security personnel arrested Wangkheirakpam Romeo Meitei, also known as Baruni and Koubru, from Top Makha Leikai near Shagolsem Pukhri under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. Police alleged that the 45-year-old was working as a recruiter for the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) [PREPAK (PRO)].
In a separate operation, security forces arrested RK Bothoi, also known as Amit and Sinthangamba, from Yairipok Kakmayai Lamkhai under Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district. Officials identified him as an alleged cadre of the banned NRFM. During the arrest, a .32 calibre pistol, along with a magazine containing three live rounds, was recovered from his possession. Police said investigations are continuing to determine the extent of the alleged involvement of the arrested individuals in insurgent activities. Further legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with the law, and security agencies are continuing operations against banned militant organisations across the state.
