Fresh violence was reported from Manipur’s Kamjong district during the early hours of Thursday after suspected militants allegedly carried out coordinated attacks on villages located near the India-Myanmar border. According to sources, the attack took place around 2 am at Namlee Market and Choro village under Kamjong district. The incident has once again raised security concerns in the sensitive hill region, where tensions and sporadic violence have continued for several months. Initial reports suggested that the attack may have been carried out using drones by suspected cadres linked to KNA-B. Though officials have not yet issued a detailed statement on the incident, sources said the use of drones during the assault has triggered fresh concern among security agencies monitoring the conflict-hit border areas.
Several houses were reportedly set on fire during the attack. Visuals and local inputs from the area indicated that properties suffered damage as flames spread through parts of the villages during the night. However, there was no official confirmation of any deaths or injuries at the time this report was filed.Security forces and local authorities are said to be closely monitoring the situation. Additional information regarding the scale of the damage and the identities of those involved was still awaited. The latest incident has added to growing worries over the continuing instability in Manipur’s border districts, especially in areas close to Myanmar where armed groups remain active. Over the past several months, several incidents of firing, arson and attacks on villages have been reported from different hill districts of the state.
Security agencies have also been maintaining heightened vigil in border regions amid fears of cross-border movement and militant activities. The reported use of drones in the latest attack is likely to increase concerns over evolving methods being used in the ongoing conflict situation.
