Kamjong reviews Vibrant Villages Programme-II, focuses on border development and livelihoods

The Kamjong district administration in Manipur has stepped up efforts to accelerate the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP)-II, with a renewed focus on improving livelihoods, encouraging community participation and creating sustainable infrastructure in border villages. Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung chaired a review meeting with district officials at the Camp Office in the 2nd Manipur Rifles Complex on Monday to assess the progress of the centrally sponsored programme. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner H.L. Jain, Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), district-level officers and other officials. Reviewing the implementation of the scheme, Kashung stressed the need for effective execution to improve the quality of life in border villages. He directed officials to make regular field visits and interact closely with local residents to understand their needs and ensure that development projects address local priorities.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the operational guidelines of the Vibrant Villages Programme-II and instructed line departments to prepare project proposals in consultation with villagers and the concerned SDOs. He emphasised that every project should include a clear plan for long-term operation and maintenance to ensure that the assets created remain functional and sustainable. The Vibrant Villages Programme-II is a centrally sponsored initiative aimed at promoting the overall development of strategically important villages located along India’s international borders. The programme seeks to improve infrastructure, strengthen connectivity and create better livelihood opportunities for residents. In Kamjong district, it covers the blocks of Kamjong, Kasom Khullen and Sahamphung. Later in the day, Kashung also chaired a meeting of the District Level NCORD Committee to review the district’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Tholu Rocky, Divisional Forest Officer of Kamjong Division Nepolean Rongmei, officials from various departments and representatives of security agencies.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed enforcement measures taken by different departments and called for closer coordination among law enforcement agencies and security forces to strengthen action against drug trafficking and substance abuse. He emphasised that sustained cooperation between all stakeholders would be essential to effectively tackle the menace and ensure the safety and well-being of local communities.
