Manipur Police have clarified that a village where houses have, according to social media reports, been allegedly set on fire, is located in Myanmar and not Manipur. “Information of reported burning of houses in Molnoi Kuki village on May 12, 2026, around 3 pm are doing round in various social media platforms. It is to clarify that Molnoi Kuki village is in Myanmar, and approximately 2 km from Border Pillar (BP) No. 113 in Kamjong District, Manipur. The incident is not related to India,” the state police force clarified.
The development comes at a time when political leaders and civil society organizations have appealed for peace and harmony among communities in the strife-torn state.
The police force further appealed to the public not to believe in rumors and be vigilant of false videos.
“The veracity of any circulation of unfounded videos, audio clips etc. may be confirmed from the number- 9233522822 of Central Control Room. Moreover, there are possibilities of many fake posts being circulated on social media,” it stated. “It is hereby cautioned that uploading and circulation of such fake posts on social media will attract legal action with consequences. Further, appeal is made to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately,” it added.
