Manipur Villagers Meet CM, Seek Retention of UNLF Camp Led by Pambei

A delegation of 25 representatives from 28 villages of the peripheral areas of Khomidok Hill Range, Imphal East, urged the Manipur government not to relocate or replace the designated camp of the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) at Nungshum village, citing concerns over security and stability.

The delegation met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Secretariat in Imphal on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

In the memorandum, the representatives highlighted the vulnerability of peripheral regions, particularly areas such as the Khamenlok Hill Range in the Uyumpok-Nongshum belt, which they said have been severely affected since the onset of the ongoing crisis in the state.

They alleged that the presence of armed groups, including those operating from the so-called Sinai Camp and associated with Kuki militant factions under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement, has contributed to a deteriorating security environment.

However, the villagers noted that the situation witnessed a marked improvement following the establishment of the Pambei-led UNLF camp in the area.

The Chief Minister, after hearing the delegation, said, “The matter is under careful and serious consideration of the government. I assure that no hasty decision will be taken, keeping in mind the paramount importance of peace, stability and security in the region.”

“All aspects will be thoroughly examined to ensure that the safety and protection of the villages are fully safeguarded,” he said.
