Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Friday embarked on a road journey to Ukhrul as part of a series of outreach visits, aimed at strengthening peace and reconciliation across the state. “During our visit to Ukhrul district, our entourage reached Sikibung village, where we were accorded a warm and cordial welcome by the Tangkhul community. Accompanied by MLAs and officials, I had a meaningful interaction with the villagers, who expressed their deep concerns regarding the restoration of peace and stability in the area,” Singh stated on social media later.
The Chief Minister assured the members of the Tangkhul community that the highest priority would be laid on ensuring peace and security. Necessary measures will be undertaken to eliminate threats and prevent any breach of peace, while upholding harmony and public safety,” Singh said. “We also remain committed to addressing the developmental needs of the village, particularly in strengthening essential infrastructure, to ensure inclusive progress and improved quality of life for all,” he said.
Earlier, the Chief Minister, accompanied by MLAs and senior officials, was accorded a warm reception at Thawai Kuki village along the route. A large gathering of residents turned out to welcome the team, signalling local expectations for improved development and governance. Singh visited Ramva village, approximately 25 km from Ukhrul town, to inspect the ongoing National Highway projects, including NH-150 (Ukhrul–Kohima Road), which is being upgraded for improved connectivity.
“I am pleased to note the satisfactory progress of the work. Once completed, this vital corridor will serve as an important lifeline, facilitating the movement of essential goods and people, strengthening connectivity with the mainland, and contributing significantly to the State’s economic growth,” the Chief Minister said on social media.
“I am confident that the road will soon be ready for opening to traffic, further enhancing infrastructure and development in the region,” During an interaction at the village, residents raised concerns over road connectivity, drinking water supply and access to healthcare. The Chief Minister assured them that these issues would be taken up on priority, reiterating the government’s commitment to improving basic infrastructure and living conditions in remote areas.
