NRFM Cadre Arrested as Security Forces Destroy Huge Weapons Cache in Chandel District

During a high-stakes operation in Chandel district on April 29, security forces in Manipur found a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives. This was a big step forward in the fight against insurgent activities and the illegal spread of weapons. After the recovery, a different operation in the Bishnupur district led to the arrest of an active member of the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM). In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities and the illegal proliferation of weapons, security forces in Manipur recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during a high-stakes operation in Chandel district on April 29. The recovery was followed by the arrest of an active cadre of the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) in a separate operation in Bishnupur district.

Based on specific information, security personnel started a search and area domination operation in the Khangtung village area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Molcham Police Station in Chandel. The search found a wide range of weapons hidden in the fringe forest area. The seized weapons included a 7.62 K-09 assault rifle, four single-bore rifles, a Mauser-style sporting rifle, a shotgun, a submachine gun (SMG), and a pistol, as well as several magazines that went with them.

Along with the guns, the recovery also included a dangerous mix of explosives and communication gear. Security officials said they found four “pompis” (locally made mortars), three grenades with detonators, five Baofeng radio sets, and 33 rounds of ammo of different sizes. Officials said that the recovery of such advanced communication tools and high-quality rifles shows that insurgent groups are still trying to keep their tactical coordination in the area.

On April 28, the crackdown continued in Bishnupur district, where security forces arrested Khwairakpam Doren Singh, a 42-year-old active member of the NRFM. Singh, who was said to be an arms smuggler, was taken from the Upokpi Mayai Leikai area. During the arrest, they took his cell phone and SIM card. They are now looking into them to find more information about smuggling networks.

After these successful operations, security forces have stepped up their search and area control efforts in the weak and fringe areas of Manipur. These proactive steps are part of a state-wide plan to stop the flow of illegal weapons and deal with insurgent threats, which will help keep the state’s sensitive border areas stable.
