PIL Filed in Manipur High Court Seeking Intervention in Alleged Abduction of Six Naga Civilians

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed before the High Court of Manipur on Thursday seeking urgent judicial intervention in connection with the alleged abduction of six Naga civilians by suspected Kuki armed groups.

The petition was filed by Advocate Mark Khapai, president of the Naga Lawyers’ Association, Manipur, amid growing concern over the fate and whereabouts of the missing individuals. The disappearance of the six civilians has sparked widespread protests and demands for immediate action from Naga civil society organisations, student bodies and community leaders across the state.

According to the petition, the alleged abduction has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of the six civilians and warrants immediate intervention by the state authorities.

The PIL has sought directions from the High Court to the Government of Manipur, the Central Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to trace the missing persons, determine their whereabouts and ensure their safe release at the earliest.

The development comes amid mounting public pressure on the authorities to address the issue and provide clarity on the status of the missing civilians.

On Wednesday, the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), adopted a series of resolutions during an emergency assembly session, including a decision to boycott the Government of Manipur until the fate of the six missing Nagas is established.

Naga organisations and community leaders have continued to press for urgent action, calling on the government and security agencies to take all necessary measures to secure the safe return of the missing civilians.
