Residents in Moreh staged a sit-in protest condemning the recent attack and urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure accountability and take steps to restore peace in the region.
A protest rally was also held in Churachandpur (Lamka), where participants raised concerns over the alleged attack on the Kuki village of Mulam and demanded justice. Protesters also called for a fair and transparent investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged audio tapes linked to former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Another rally took place in Kanggui, where demonstrators voiced similar concerns, demanding accountability and restoration of peace.
Meanwhile, two Kuki women’s organisations—Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights and Kuki Women Union General Headquarters—submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Deputy Commissioners of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts.
In the memorandum, the organisations expressed concern over the alleged audio tapes attributed to N. Biren Singh and the April 24 armed attack on Mulam and Songphel villages, stating that the issues strike at the core of the rule of law and reflect the continued suffering of the Kuki-Zo community since May 2023.
They called for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the audio tape case under judicial supervision, and an investigation by the National Investigation Agency into the Mulam–Songphel attack. The groups also demanded ex-gratia relief and rehabilitation for affected families, increased deployment of central forces in vulnerable areas, and the initiation of structured political dialogue with Kuki-Zo representatives.
The organisations further urged authorities to ensure that the proposed “Mass Rally for Justice, Truth and Accountability” scheduled for April 29 proceeds peacefully.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored as demands for accountability and action continue to intensify across the region.
