Second IED Attack In A Week: 3 Assam Rifles Personnel Martyred In Nagaland

The Northeast was rocked by a terror blast again. This time, an IED blast targeting an Assam Rifles convoy in Nagaland martyred three jawans. Several other jawans were also injured in the incident.

On Monday, an IED planted by the roadside exploded near Sokhuvi village in Chumoukedima district as an Assam Rifles convoy was passing by. Three jawans lost their lives on the spot in the attack carried out by unidentified miscreants. The injured jawans were immediately shifted to hospital. There has been no official update yet on the condition of the injured.

Following the incident, Assam Rifles and Dimapur Police launched a joint search operation. Security has also been tightened at the blast site and surrounding areas.

Notably, a similar attack targeting security forces had taken place just a few days ago. On July 7, an IED blast on National Highway-202 in the Nungshang Kong area of Ukhrul district, Manipur, killed two Assam Rifles jawans.

Meanwhile, retired Army officer and Kirti Chakra awardee Major Digvijay Singh Rawaat, in a social media post, alleged that the NSCN-IM outfit was behind this attack. The retired officer also alleged that the group had earlier carried out attacks on security forces in collusion with ULFA.

However, there has been no official confirmation yet about the involvement of any militant outfit in this blast. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack either. An investigation into the incident is underway.
