Security forces and Manipur Police have arrested two alleged members of banned militant organisations and apprehended a man accused of transporting tobacco products in separate operations conducted across different districts of the state, officials said. The operations were carried out in Kakching, Imphal West and Thoubal districts as part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb unlawful activities and maintain law and order in the region. According to officials, an active member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested by security forces on June 5 from Kakching district. The individual was identified as Huidrom Boyboy Singh (28), a resident of Wabagai Thingel Leikai under Hiyanglam Police Station.
Security officials alleged that Singh was involved in activities linked to the outfit, including arms smuggling and the display of the organisation’s banners, flags and symbols in various locations. Several incriminating items were recovered from his possession during the operation. Authorities have not disclosed the details of the seized materials, and further investigation is underway. In a separate operation conducted on the same day, security personnel apprehended another alleged militant cadre belonging to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL). The arrested individual was identified as Thangjam Diya Singh, also known as Manimatum, aged 26, from Lamsang Makha Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district. Officials said incriminating items were also recovered from him at the time of arrest. Security agencies are examining the seized materials and investigating his alleged links and activities within the organisation.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested Md. Azmal Khan (26), a resident of Lilong Uku in Thoubal district, on June 4 in connection with the transportation of tobacco products. Police said he was intercepted on the Pallel-Chandel road near Pioneer School under Pallel Police Station in Kakching district. During the operation, officers seized a Super Carry vehicle that was allegedly being used to transport the tobacco products. Authorities are investigating the source and intended destination of the consignment.
