UNC Delegation Meets Manipur CM Over Abducted Naga Villagers, Demands Swift Action

A six-member delegation of the United Naga Council (UNC) met Yumnam Khemchand Singh and members of his cabinet at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on May 23 to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

The UNC delegation included president NG Lorho, vice-president N. Poujan Golmei, L. Adani Mao, Samson Remmei, former UNC president KS Paul Leo and working committee member secretary AC Thotso.

The state government side was represented by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and several Naga MLAs.

During the meeting, the UNC delegation urged the government to intensify efforts to trace the six abducted Naga villagers from Konsakhul in Kangpokpi district.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh informed the delegation that the case involving the six abducted villagers would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He also stated that the killing of three church leaders in Kangpokpi district on May 13 had already been transferred to the NIA for investigation.

The Chief Minister said that search and rescue operations have been underway since May 14 to trace the missing villagers.

Khemchand Singh further appealed to the UNC to assist in securing the release of 14 Kuki civilians who have reportedly been held captive since the violence began.

He also urged Kuki community leaders to cooperate in tracing the six abducted Naga villagers.

Appealing for peace and cooperation, the Chief Minister called upon all communities in the state to support the government’s efforts to normalise the situation and restore peace in Manipur.
