In a move to promote menstrual hygiene and empower girl students, the District Administration of Kakching, Manipur, has installed a sanitary napkin vending machine and an incinerator at Kakching Higher Secondary School—free of cost. This initiative is part of the Centre’s flagship ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) scheme.
Officials said the machines aim to make sanitary products easily available to female students and promote safe and hygienic practices. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) has been identified as a key component of the BBBP programme, which focuses on eliminating gender bias and improving services for girls.
The initiative was carried out in coordination with the District Protection Officer, the ICDS Cell, and the Zonal Education Officer, Kakching. During the distribution event, students and teachers were also given notebooks and posters containing important information on helpline services, including the Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098).A similar awareness drive was held at Wabagai Higher Secondary School, where educational materials on the helplines were also distributed.
