Kuki CSO Announces 24-Hour NH-37 Shutdown After Attack on Civilians in Kangpokpi

The Kuki CSO Working Committee (KCWC), South West Sadar Hills, has announced a 24-hour total shutdown along National Highway-37 with immediate effect following an armed attack on civilians in Thingkhojang village of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

In a statement, the organisation condemned the incident, alleging that unidentified armed assailants attacked the village while a Sunday church service was underway, leaving several people, including women and children, injured. The claims have not been independently verified.

The KCWC also alleged a security lapse, stating that personnel deployed nearby failed to prevent the attack despite their presence in the area. There has been no official response from the security forces regarding the allegation.

The committee demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for a fair and impartial investigation into the incident. It further urged the Central and Manipur governments to provide immediate medical assistance, relief measures and enhanced security for the residents of Thingkhojang and nearby villages.

As part of its protest, the organisation announced a 24-hour shutdown on NH-37, which is expected to disrupt vehicular movement. It also declared non-cooperation with the 86 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) until accountability is fixed over the alleged security lapse.

The KCWC expressed solidarity with the affected families and appealed to the authorities to take prompt action to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of civilians. There was no immediate response from the Manipur government or security agencies on the demands raised by the organisation.
