Manipur Government Reaffirms Peace Commitment; Minister Khemchand Meets Village Chiefs

In a continued effort to restore stability amidst ongoing ethnic unrest, the Manipur state government has reiterated its commitment to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and lasting peace. Since the eruption of ethnic violence in May 2023, the state has faced severe instability, with more than 260 lives lost and thousands displaced across multiple districts.

In a significant step toward reconciliation, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh held a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The discussions involved Member of Legislative Assembly Ram Muivah and village chiefs from Sanakeithel. The primary focus of the dialogue was to establish long-term peace and security in the region, providing a platform for local leaders to submit a memorandum detailing community concerns.

Beyond security, the delegation emphasized the acceleration of development and infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving welfare and public trust. Officials noted that enhanced security arrangements have already begun yielding positive results, helping to restore a sense of normalcy to the Sanakeithel area. The state government maintains that balancing robust security measures with inclusive developmental programs remains the definitive path forward to heal community divisions and ensure permanent stability across Manipur.
