The headquarters of the Manipur unit of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) at Liangmai Taphou in Senapati district was reportedly vandalised on Thursday, a day after unidentified miscreants allegedly ransacked the premises during the night of June 10.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions and widespread public anger following the recovery of six bodies believed to be those of Naga men who had been missing since their alleged abduction on May 13.
Visuals from the site showed damaged property and a ransacked office complex, reflecting the grief and frustration that have spread across Naga-inhabited areas in the aftermath of the killings.
The attack occurred shortly after the United Naga Council (UNC) confirmed that the six civilians abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district had been found dead. The council alleged that the victims were mutilated and dismembered after being killed by armed militants.
Several protesters reportedly blamed the state government for failing to ensure the safety and security of innocent Naga civilians who were allegedly held captive for nearly a month before their bodies were recovered.
The recovery of the six bodies has triggered widespread condemnation, protests and shutdowns across Naga areas, with civil society organisations and community leaders demanding justice for the victims and stringent action against those responsible for the killings.
No injuries were reported in connection with the vandalism, and police have not confirmed any arrests so far.
Statements from the Naga People’s Front and the Manipur government regarding the incident were awaited at the time of filing this report.
