PM Modi Showcases India’s Rich Diversity on UAE Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully elevated India’s cultural diplomacy during his official visit to the United Arab Emirates. By presenting a carefully curated selection of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged agricultural produce, heritage textiles, and rare handicrafts to the UAE leadership, the Prime Minister effectively showcased the depth of India’s artisanal excellence while deepening the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Among the standout gifts presented to the UAE Queen Mother was Manipur’s famous Chak Hao rice. Known as “Black Rice,” this deeply purple, nutrient-rich aromatic grain was historically reserved for royalty and ceremonial events. Accompanying the rice was an elegant, reversible Maheshwari Silk fabric from Madhya Pradesh and an intricately designed Karimnagar Filigree silver chest from Telangana, which features a hand-hammered ceremonial elephant procession.

The exchange beautifully bridged distinct cultural traditions. The UAE Crown Prince received a ceremonial dagger from Rajasthan featuring intricate Koftgari gold-and-silver wire inlay work—mirroring the Emirati Khanjar tradition of courage and dignity—alongside nutrient-dense Mithila Makhana from the wetlands of Bihar.

Meanwhile, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was presented with exceptionally sweet, low-acidity pineapples from Meghalaya, iconic saffron-hued Kesar Mangoes from Gujarat, and a rare Gujarati Rogan painting depicting the “Tree of Life.” This ancient motif perfectly symbolizes the balance of heritage and progress shared by both nations.

Beyond these symbolic gestures of soft power, Prime Minister Modi and President Al Nahyan formalized critical bilateral agreements to strengthen regional security and energy resilience amidst the ongoing West Asian crisis. The visit successfully blended strategic statecraft with cultural pride, reaffirming an enduring geopolitical partnership.
