Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh has warned individuals who carry arms and attempt to take the law into their own hands, of strict action, stating that those who fire at security forces would be dealt with in self-defence.
Addressing a media conference in Churachandpur on Saturday, Singh said that proactive security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored in the State.
“Any armed individual who tries to take the law into their own hands will be dealt with strictly. Those with weapons will be arrested. Those who try to fire at us will be dealt with in self-defence,” he said.
The police chief said around 70 percent of the weapons looted during the ethnic violence in the State had been recovered so far.
Singh also expressed concern over the spread of misinformation on social media, stating that police were monitoring online platforms and taking action against individuals and groups spreading false information that could trigger inter-community tensions.
Notably, this was Singh’s first visit to Churachandpur district after taking charge as the state police force chief, where he chaired meetings with District Police officers, CAPFs/Assam Rifles, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Singh appreciated the efforts of all units in maintaining law and order and praised the District Police for achievements in drug seizures, arrests of armed miscreants, and recovery of illegal weapons.
The DGP urged officers to continue lawful measures to ensure peace and security in the district.
During discussions with CSO members, he noted their concerns, assured necessary legal action for public safety, and encouraged them to promote dialogue, peace, and harmony in the State.
