Security forces today seized 15 kg of opium from a fake Army vehicle in Manipur’s Senapati district.
A joint team of Special Operations Team of Senapati district police, CRPF and Assam Rifles stopped one Innova car, bearing registration number AS-23 AK/5541, with VIP flag post but without any escort for checking at T Khullen post.
On verification, the driver was identified as Tarkeshwar Singh (45) of Tinsukia district in Assam and the vehicle bore the insignia of an Armyy Brigadier (VIP flag post and one star).
One nameplate with ‘Army’ written on one side and ‘Ministry of Defence’ on the other side was also found inside the vehicle. Since the vehicle was without any escort and the driver was driving alone, the vehicle was checked thoroughly, which led to the recovery of 17 packets of opium weighing 15.350 kg concealed in a compartment under the rear right door of the vehicle. On spot verification, it was established that the vehicle as well as the driver didn’t belong to the Army. He used the insignia of the army and the nameplate only for evading police checking. The driver was arrested and two mobile phones, one wallet containing Rs 5000 in cash, one PAN card and one voter card were seized from him. A case has been registered at Senapati police station under relevant sections of NDPS Act and BNS for further necessary legal action.
