Manipur Police and security forces have arrested nine alleged militants linked to various banned insurgent outfits in a series of operations across the state, dealing a blow to networks involved in grenade attacks, extortion and the illegal supply of arms.
According to police, four alleged cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP-PWG] were arrested on June 18 for their suspected involvement in planting hand grenades at multiple locations in Imphal East district, including a residential area at Brahmapur Nahabam Bamon Leikai. The arrested individuals were identified as Huidrom Palinba Singh alias Nanao, Pebam Roshan Singh, Nameirakpam Jitson Meitei and Maimom Lemba Meitei, all residents of Imphal East district.
In a separate operation, security forces apprehended four alleged cadres of KCP (MFL) from various locations in Kakching district. Officials alleged that the group was engaged in extortion activities and the illegal supply of arms. Those arrested were identified as Moirangthem Tondomba Singh alias Teme, Wahengbam Inao Singh alias Jack, Nongmaithem David Meitei and Maibam Lokendro Singh.
Earlier, on June 16, security forces arrested an alleged cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), Arambam Sanayaima Meitei alias Ali, from Imphal East district. Another alleged KCP-PWG member, Hemam Laingam Meitei alias Ngamba, was arrested from Bishnupur district on June 17.
The arrests are part of intensified counter-insurgency operations being conducted across Manipur to curb militant activities, dismantle extortion networks and check the circulation of illegal weapons. Security agencies said investigations are underway to ascertain further links and activities of the arrested individuals.
