Joint security forces comprising the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles apprehended four individuals in Kangpokpi district on Monday during an operation connected to the investigation into the abduction of six persons earlier this month. According to officials, the operation was carried out on May 25 in the area between P. Molding and Leilon Vaiphei inter-village road. The search operation formed part of an ongoing investigation launched after six individuals were allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13.The four apprehended persons have been identified as Thangkhomang Khongsai (51) of Patbung village in Kangchup, Seikholet Khongsai (40) of Mongbung Tongneh in New Keithelmanbi, Lunminthang Dimngel (27), and Kamgoulal Khongsai (30).
Security sources said the four are suspected to be active cadres associated with armed village volunteer groups operating in parts of Kangpokpi district. They are also suspected to have been involved in several anti-social activities, including alleged extortion, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Officials said investigators are examining whether the apprehended individuals had any direct role in the abduction of the six persons. Their possible involvement in the incident will be determined during further investigation and questioning. The abduction case has drawn attention amid the continuing law and order challenges and ethnic tensions in Manipur. Security agencies have intensified search operations and monitoring in sensitive areas of Kangpokpi district following the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the condition or whereabouts of the abducted persons. Officials said the investigation is continuing and additional operations may be carried out based on inputs gathered during the inquiry.
