India to hold ground on June 2026 deadline for domestic solar cell production no blanket extension

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has officially ruled out a blanket extension for the implementation of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II, confirming that solar projects commissioned on or after June 1, 2026, must mandatorily use domestically manufactured solar PV cells. This decisive move aims to reinforce policy stability and accelerate India’s transition toward absolute self-reliance in clean energy manufacturing. While the government rejected a industry-wide postponement to protect long-term domestic investments, it introduced a mechanism for targeted, case-to-case relief. Developers who have already taken substantial, verifiable steps—such as securing 75% of project land, achieving financial closure, or completing module installation without final commissioning—can apply for narrow time extensions via a dedicated portal by June 30, 2026. This balanced approach holds the line on domestic manufacturing mandates while protecting projects genuinely delayed by external forces.
