The launch of Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM) by the Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) reflects the growing emphasis on industry-linked higher education as India strengthens its focus on innovation-driven economic growth and advanced workforce development. The deemed-to-be university, launched in collaboration with the University at Albany, will begin academic operations in August 2026 with programmes designed around artificial intelligence, aerospace engineering and technology-focused management education.
Education and industry experts say such initiatives are increasingly important as India seeks to build a skilled workforce capable of supporting sectors linked to advanced manufacturing, aerospace, automation and digital technologies. RISM’s initial academic offerings will include B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering and Electrical Sciences, alongside BBA and MBA programmes. The university said its curriculum has been developed with industry and academic partners to integrate internships, live projects, translational research and industry-sponsored Centres of Excellence aimed at improving practical skills and employability outcomes.
RISM’s planned campus near Bengaluru’s Information Technology Investment Region in Devanahalli is expected to strengthen collaboration between academia and industrial clusters, including aerospace and electronics manufacturing hubs near the upcoming Foxconn facility. The institution will also introduce a “Professors of Practice” model, bringing senior industry leaders into academic departments to align learning with evolving economic and industry priorities.
